Master’s student Josh Clevenger successfully defended his thesis titled, “Metabolic and Genomic Analysis of Elongated Fruit in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum).” Josh will be joining the Dr. Peggy Ozias-Akins lab at the University of Georgia as a Ph.D. student in January.

The van der Knaap lab traveled to Ithaca, NY for our Third Annual Tomato Fruit Shape Meeting with project collaborators at Cornell University. While there we took a break to visit Taughannock Park and one of the highest waterfalls on the east side of the Rockies.

Ph.D. student Na Zhang successfully defended her thesis titled, “Finemapping and characterization of fw3.2, one of the major QTL controlling fruit size in tomato.” Na has accepted a post-doctoral position in Dr. Roger Wise’s lab at Iowa State University.

Ph.D. student Shan Wu and post-doctoral researcher Manohar Chakrabarti attended the 8th Annual Solanaceae Conference (SOL2011) in Japan. Shan won 1st place in the poster competition with her poster titles, “A study of SUN and OVATE in controlling apical-basal patterning of tomato fruit.”
